Manchester United make the trip to south London to take on the in-form Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday evening, looking for the win that will see them move back into the Premier League top-six.
Under Oliver Glasner, The Eagles have flown clear of relegation worries. They have hit the magical 40 points mark and risen to 14th in the table. They are also are on a great run of form that includes a victory over Liverpool last month.
The same cannot be said of the visitors. Their most recent match produced a 1-1 draw with Burnley, hardly a great result. There has been little letup in the Red Devils’ injury woes, leaving them with a very under-strength defence. Jefferson Lerma and Marc Guehi could return for the hosts.
The pressure on manager Erik ten Hag is intense. He has had to hit out at speculation that much of his squad is up for sale in the summer, hardly ideal preparation for a big Premier League game. They do though now have a chance of pushing up the table after Spurs' slip-up against Liverpool yesterday.
It was the Eagles, then led by Roy Hodgson, who won the reverse fixture, claiming a 0-1 victory at Old Trafford at the end of September. The ramifications could be significant if such a result were to be repeated.
Manchester United defender Harry Maguire will miss the rest of the Premier League season after suffering a muscle injury, the club said Sunday.
United said Maguire would need three weeks to recover but did not offer further details on the injury, which occurred in training.
It means he faces a race to be fit in time for the FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 25, but should be available for England for the European Championship, which starts June 14.
Maguire’s injury is the latest setback for United manager Erik ten Hag, who has had to contend with the absences of a host of key players this season, including Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Casemiro and Mason Mount.
United has four more league games before the Cup final at Wembley. United plays Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday.
The Red Devils currently sit seventh in the division, two points shy off sixth-placed Newcastle United, while Crystal Palace ar 14th, four points behind 13th-placed Brighton & Hove Albion thanks to a four-game unbeaten run.
The Eagles will again be without the services of goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, midfielder Cheick Doucoure, Jefferson Lerma, Rob Holding and Matheus Franca for the clash with the Red Devils through injury.
Eberechi Eze (knee) and Marc Guehi are both expected to return to the fold, though, the game may come a tad bit soon for the latter, who is recovering from the knee operation that he underwent in February.
Manchester United have confirmed that Jonny Evans and Anthony Martial, who is set to leave the club at the end of the season, have resumed full training ahead of this weekend.
Marcus Rashford, Willy Kambwala, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw, and Tyrell Malacia remain absent for the Red Devils ahead of their trip to Selhurst Park.
It has been far from a vintage campaign for the Red Devils, who are one point ahead of Newcastle in the race for Europa League qualification, and speculation is raging over Erik ten Hag's future in the dugout.
A strong end to the season might not be enough to save the Dutchman's job, and his side will need to be on their A-game if they are to claim all three points at Crystal Palace.
That's because the Eagles are one of the Premier League's form teams after adapting to new boss Oliver Glasner's methods and getting key players such as Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze back to fitness.
